What is Mazda M Hybrid?
It is our mild hybrid technology. It uses a small Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) to capture energy that is normally wasted during braking and stores it to power the car’s electrical systems, reducing the load on the engine and saving fuel in the process.
How does it work?
When you decelerate, the integrated starter motor generator produces electricity which is stored in a 24 volt battery. This electricity is used for a number of purposes including starting the engine and providing motor assistance when you pull away. It can also power the car’s electrical systems.
Will I need to drive differently?
Not at all, but you may notice that you drive more smoothly. With the electric motor assistance, pulling away from a standstill is easier, and when you change gear the motor assistance makes gear changes smoother.
Will I need to charge it?
No. The battery charges as you drive – but only when you slow down, so it never takes power away from the engine.
Does it cost more?
No. Mazda M Hybrid helps save you money by improving fuel economy and reducing emissions. Mazda M Hybrid is standard on all Mazda3, Mazda CX-30 & Mazda CX-5 models, including those equipped with the e-Skyactiv X powertrains.
Is Mazda M Hybrid the same as Mazda's full hybrid or PHEV technologies?
No. The Mild Hybrid differs from the Mazda2 Hybrid model, which is only available as a full hybrid option. Alternatively, we have Plug-In Hybrid options available in our CX-60 and CX-80 models.
