A Closer Look At The Mazda CX-5

We’re taking a closer look at one of the more stylish SUVs available from Magna Mazda Poole and our other branches’ ranges: the Mazda CX-5.

With the new model featuring several upgrades over the original Mazda SUV, we’ll cover what’s changed, the key tech and safety features, and how the car performs in daily life.

Latest Stylings

The Mazda CX-5 comes with a few notable tweaks from the previous model.

Beginning with the exterior, fresh stylings include:

  • a new, more three-dimensional front grill and signature Mazda wing design
  • both front and rear lamp clusters have been restyled
  • new front and rear bumpers
  • new exterior colour, Zircon Sand, available
  • three new model grades, each with subtle differences to make them stand apart

The result is a refined-yet-trendy Mazda SUV that looks every bit the part on the road.

Interior Updates

While the older model was already comfortable and spacious to begin with, the new Mazda CX-5 benefits from a few notable adjustments.

In the driving seat, you’ll find a wireless Qi phone charging tray has been implemented in the centre console. Around the rear of the Mazda SUV, the two-piece, reversible loadspace floorboard and tailgate sill are also now on the same level to aid with loading.

Depending on which model grade you choose from, you’ll find further advancements too. For example, Newground models feature a floorboard with a water-resistant side for wet or dirty items.

Drivability Upgrades

Beneath the Mazda CX-5’s surface, this SUV has undergone some luxurious tech upgrades. This model has added two core features to its driving capabilities:

  • Mazda Intelligent Drive (Mi-Drive) – enables the driver to select the most appropriate drive mode with just the touch of a switch
  • Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture – an evolution in bodyshell, suspension and seats to enhance ride comfort and reduce fatigue, as well as reducing road noise
  • i-Activ AWD – the GT Sport model will also benefit from an Off-Road Mode

Safety Features

The updated Mazda CX-5 remains at the forefront when it comes to the latest safety technology, ensuring both the driver and passengers remain protected. The CX-5’s i-Activsense safety systems, available from Magna Mazda Poole and our other branches, now include:

  • Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) – reduces driver fatigue by assisting with accelerator, brake pedal and steering when you’re in traffic jams
  • Adaptive LED Headlights (ALH) – evolved technology allows for finer control over light distribution

Engine And Fuel Economy

There are two engine options available for the CX-5 from Mazda Christchurch and our other Magna branches. The first is the SkyActiv-G 2.0, offering between 40.9 and 43.5 mpg when it comes to fuel consumption. The second engine choice is the more powerful SkyActiv-D 2.2, which will give you between 46.3 and 50.4 mpg.

You can find the full specs for the Madza CX-5 online.
