Fuel economy and low emissions

The Mazda CX-5 will be available with the full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, delivering outstanding fuel economy and emissions without sacrificing any of the fun-to-drive characteristics you've come to expect from Mazda.

Internally, we've created a cockpit environment that optimises every point of contact between you and the car, including an improved driving position, steering wheel, seat hold, pedals and field of view.

Handling stability and safety

With a lightweight yet highly rigid SKYACTIV-BODY, the CX-5 provides enhanced handling stability and excellent collision performance that's set to earn top ratings in crash tests globally.

Petrol or turbo-charged diesel engine

Choose from our new petrol and diesel engines, with manual or automatic transmissions, and enjoy the CX-5's precise response and highly rewarding drive.

SKYACTIV-G is a 2.0 litre direct-injection petrol engine achieving a record-breaking compression ratio of 14:1, while SKYACTIV-D is a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine also delivering a 14:1 compression ratio.

Greater agility and aerodynamics

The SKYACTIV-chassis ensures high levels of comfort and agility in accordance with 'Jinba Ittai', an expression of oneness between car and driver. This versatile chassis also helps to make the CX-5 one of the lightest and most aerodynamic vehicles in its class, contributing to its impressive fuel economy and low CO₂ emissions.

CX-5 - first production model

The Mazda CX-5 will become the first production model to feature our new 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design theme. Inspired by nature's power, beauty and motion, KODO design conveys a strong sense of vitality and agility.

We've spent many years exploring the concept of motion as the basis for our unique vehicle designs. Since the launch of Zoom-Zoom in 2000 we've invested strongly in building more athletic and sporty motion into our vehicles.

Motion inspired by nature

We've evolved our designs by taking inspiration from the instantaneous movement of animals or humans at the very moment the motion begins. This instantaneous movement is the ultimate form of motion, filled with vitality and emotion - this is the essence of 'KODO - Soul of Motion'.

Vitality, agility and beauty

Chief Designer, Masashi Nakayama, says: "With the CX-5, our focus was on expressing a strong sense of vitality and agility. We looked at videos of cheetahs, their agile footwork and how they use their entire body as a spring to accelerate rapidly and change the direction instantly. They emanate great energy throughout their entire body. Inspired by their efficient yet beautiful movements, we aimed to push the SUV appearance to new levels with KODO design."
