The sun was out and thousands of people flocked to Ringwood high street yesterday for the Magna Mazda pedalcar race.
With 54 teams and an extended track of 1.4km the crowds lined the streets of the closed town centre for this year’s biggest local grand prix event.
Magna Mazda brought their branded podium straight from Goodwood for an F1 champagne celebration at the end of the grand prix.
After 2 hours of heated racing through Ringwood highstreet ‘Apollo Racing 1’ took the winning trophy with an impressive 46 laps.
Second place went to Gone Biking Mad with 46 laps, while Spirit of Royce clinched third spot with 45 laps.
Magna Mazda’s own pedal car used the sleek design of the Mazda 6 front bumper to give the racing aerodynamics and a bit of added Zoom-Zoom. Each racer took it in turns to rack up as many laps as possible in the 2 hours and under the heat of the sun this made for an exceptionally challenging event.
Race director, Jim Stride, said: “I’m so pleased it came off. Everybody had such a fantastic race. Extending the course was unknown territory, but everybody has been coming up and saying they had a fantastic race and are thrilled to bits.
We were all very impressed with the organisation of the event and the community spirit that was so evident throughout the day between competitors and spectators."
Charities, Help For Heroes, Tenovus, and Wave 105’s Cash For Kids will all share in an estimated £20,000 raised from sponsorship. Donations collected during the day will give a further boost to the charities causes.
We are all looking forward to 2012 when the Pedalcar race grand prix will return to Ringwood highstreet.
