Mazda says that since its conception in 1989 there's a little bit of Miata in everything they do. Well, it’s more than just a few loose words and Mazda has proved time and time again that it can produce great things through simple, reliable and driver-focused design.

Even now, Mazda's products offer class-leading fuel economy and practicality and they've proven to be some of the best drivers in their segments. Even the tech guys at Mazda HQ in Japan are driving enthusiasts which makes it an ideal formula to exchange a bit of functionality for a larger helping portion of fun.

This brand culture and belief has even been transpired into Mazda’s positioning within the B-car segment – a class that’s grown exponentially in the USA and is projected to double in size in the near future.

Here comes the new 2011 Mazda 2 which is hot on the heels of its sister car, the Ford Fiesta. However this new hot hatch is a little hotter than the British made classic. After lengthy test rides by various auto bloggers and magazines it is safe to say that ‘the 2011 Mazda 2 is wholly a different type of machine’.
Whilst the Fiesta is sure to provide some serious competition for the new Mazda 2, there are plenty of other well-to-do B cars that are ready to be sized up against the minuscule Mazda.

On paper, it’s deceivingly positioned as anything but overly special, in fact not only is it the least powerful car in its segment it doesn’t even offer some of the clever technology or unique packaging that some its rivals deliver to make it really stand.

However what it does deliver and something Mazda is immensely proud of is its ‘Zoom Zoom’. The new Mazda 2 is without doubt a ‘driver’s car’, the driveability and handling is simply what legends are made of and where myths are dreamed. The chassis and suspension are so well composed that big power and torque become distant necessities, although the little Mazda still delivers enough to maintain its pace.

Mazda are so confident in their new creation that the people in charge simply say that the little hatch's story is best told on the road. So we better get to it!!!
