Since about 1979 the auto manufacture Ford has owned a significant share of Japanese automaker Mazda. In 1997 Ford’s controlling stake in Mazda grew to a respectable 33.4%. This large share has been historically significant in propelling both manufactures into remaining competitive in an increasingly difficult market. Resources, knowledge and architecture have always helped both companies hold their positions in the market.

It’s not common knowledge that the current Ford Fiesta, Focus and Fusion sedans all carry parts from various new Mazda models. Likewise a few Mazda’s current cars are built upon Ford’s own compact and midsize offerings. The relationship between them is strong and share similarities throughout a range of models from both automakers.

However lately, it seems, both Ford and Mazda have been going their own separate paths. Within the last few years Ford has sold off 20% of its share in Mazda and both manufactures have been seeing less and less of each other throughout their offerings. It is however likely that both will remain to enjoy each other cooperation in the near future, but according to reports from Bloomberg, product sharing will most likely diminish as both manufactures venture forward.
